Employer Sponsored Visa
Employer sponsored visas are for skilled workers who are nominated and sponsored by Australian businesses to work in Australia temporarily or permanently. The 3 types of employer sponsored visas are
Temporary Work (Skilled) - Can be granted for a duration of up to 4 years.
Employer Nominiation Scheme - Permanent visa for those who got a job offer from an Australian business.
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme - Permanent visa for whom the future Australian employer is located at regional Australia.
General speaking, these application for these visas involve the following steps
The employer nominates an overseas worker to fill a specific position.
The nominated overseas worker applies for a visa.
For Subclass 457, one more step must be complete before the above two steps which is -
The employer seeks an approval to be a Standard Business Sponsor.

Subclass 457 Pathway to Permanent Residency
Some people intend to apply for Subclass 186 or Subclass 187. However they cannot meet some criteria no matter they do not possess sufficient English proficiency or they have not worked as a relevant occupation for 3 years. Fortunately, current Australian migration legislation framework provide a pathway for those people to obtain a permanent residency. They may first obtain a temporary work visa. After they have worked for the employer for 2 years, they may transit to permanent residency with less rigid criteria.
